Police seeking information on scam
Tiffin police are warning residents and businesses not to fall for a recent scam involving an alleged upcoming Texas Hold ‘Em Charity Tournament.
Sgt. Bryan Bryant of the Tiffin Police Department said police have received reports of a man collecting money for a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament he claims is scheduled for Aug. 31 at the American Legion.
The American Legion, however, told police no tournament is set to take place.
According to a registration sheet the man has been providing to people, a $10 buy-in is required for the tournament. The sheet also says all proceeds are to benefit Tiffin area homeless shelters and the first-place winner gets an all-expenses paid entry into the 2014 World Series of Poker.
Bryant said eight reports have been made to police from Tiffin business owners and residents within the last week. He said the man also may be operating in the Fremont area.
Bryant said anyone who has contributed money or has information about the man should call (419) 447-2323.
