Man draws 30-day jail term for assault on businessman

A Fremont man was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he was found guilty of assault Wednesday.

Karl J. Elliott Jr., 33, who had originally been indicted on a felonious assault charge, pleaded no contest with consent of a finding of guilty to a lesser-offense assault, a first-degree misdemeanor, a court spokeswoman from Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Michael Kelbley’s courtroom said.

Elliott also was ordered Wednesday to pay $220.48 in restitution, the spokeswoman said.

A trial had been scheduled to begin July 17 for Elliott, who had been indicted on a charge of felonious assault after Tiffin businessman Matthew Glick was found bleeding in an alley in downtown Tiffin in July 2012.
