Kasich in town assessing storm damage

In a phone interview, Gov. John Kasich said part of a trip to Tiffin Tuesday was a damage assessment with local officials and Nancy Dragani, executive director of Ohio Emergency Management Agency.

Kasich said the state is assessing the county after last week’s storm to find out what funds can be distributed to the county and local residents.

County Commissioner Fred Zoeller said at this time funds available to residents are limited to help from the Department of Job and Family Services, and that part of the meeting was to make available other funds for residents if possible. Seneca County has received some assistance, which was made possible by declaring a state of emergency last week.

“There’s no doubt we’ll be able to provide some resources,” Kasich said, adding that he expects the local and state EMA will submit their assessment to see what costs the state can legally cover.
