Arson suspected in Fostoria fires

FOSTORIA – Fostoria Fire Division is investigating fires believed to be arson at 327 and 331 Sumner St., which are next door to each other and were unoccupied at the time of the blazes.

The fire division was dispatched to a report of the house fire at 331 Sumner St. at 5:32 a.m. Wednesday, according to the police department.

According to a release from Fostoria Fire Division, upon arrival, firefighters found flames venting through the roof. No one was injured, but the extreme heat conditions made it difficult during operations and investigation of the fire, according to the release.

Firefighters found smoke coming from the back of the house at 327 Sumner St. when they were finishing extinguishing the first fire.

The fires were found to be incendiary in nature, according to the release. Fostoria police and fire departments worked at the scenes, and the assistance of the state fire marshal’s office was requested.

The release states damage at 327 Sumner St. was minor, and damage at 331 Sumner St. was heavy.

According to the release, a Blue Ribbon Arson Reward has been posted for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the fires. Anyone with information can contact either Fostoria Police Department at (419) 435-8573 or the state fire marshal at (800) 589-2728.
