Local man sentenced

A Tiffin man was sentenced to seven years in prison Friday after previously being found guilty of felonious assault charges.

James A. Hayes III, 41, was sentenced by Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Michael Kelbley to a prison term of seven years for one count of felonious assault and a prison term of five years for a second count of felonious assault, a court spokeswoman said. The terms are to be served concurrently.

Hayes was found guilty of the second-degree felony charges after a jury trial in February. A jury found that he had stabbed Brian M. Armbruster, 47, of Tiffin, during a fight in a parking lot at Stiney’s Three Oaks Tavern, 255 Second Ave., in February 2012.

Armbruster, who was stabbed in his chest, had to be taken by Life Flight to Toledo Hospital for his injuries.

Hayes, who was given an attorney for the appeal process, also was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $6,633.12, the spokeswoman said.
