Abduction attempt reported

FOSTORIA – Fostoria police are searching for a man who attempted to abduct a 4-year-old boy Wednesday morning on South Town Street.

Capt. Patrick Brooks of the Fostoria Police Department said a woman reported at 10:20 a.m. a man had stopped his white, full-size van on South Town Street where she and the boy, her grandson, were walking.

The man got out of the van and tried to grab the boy. The woman screamed and kicked the man, who got in his van and left southbound toward the south end of town.

According to Fostoria Police reports, the woman and the boy had been near Pelton’s Super Market, 418 S. Town St., when the incident occurred.

The man was described as black and in his mid-20s. He had a clean-shaven head, or short hair, and a clean-shaven face. He was thin and 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall. He was wearing a gray T-shirt, faded blue jeans with a ripped left knee and black tennis shoes, Brooks said.

His van was windowless and believed to be a Ford, he said.

Brooks said police are still looking for the suspect, who the woman did not recognize. He said no one was injured in the altercation.
