Peaceful Valley to gain memorial

The Student Prince baseball team and Heidelberg University are preparing to dedicate a new memorial that now stands at Peaceful Valley, the team’s home field.

Patriots Park at Peaceful Valley honors all branches of the military as well as the soldiers who have served the country through the years.

The dedication ceremony is planned for noon March 17, after Heidelberg’s home baseball game vs. Manchester College. The community is invited to the dedication and the game, free of charge.

The memorial is a gift from Bob and Julie Lowe of Naples, Fla., whose sons Andy, who graduated from Heidelberg in 2011, and Teddy, a current senior, have had the experience to be a part of the Heidelberg baseball team.

The memorial was crafted by American patriots, most of whom are veterans, and is constructed of entirely of American steel. It features flags that represent every branch of the military and the famed black POW flag.

The Lowe family, along with Heidelberg officials, local dignitaries and military representatives are expected to attend the dedication ceremony.
