Bettsville board members recognized

BETTSVILLE – Bettsville school board members Nick Baker, Michelle Davis, Roger Hull, Leslie Hunker and Robert McDole were recognized with certificates of service plaques and a large signed card from the Bettsville student body Thursday night.
Superintendent Greg Pettit said these elected individuals dedicate themselves to working year round toward the betterment of the school and students.
In other matters, dean of students Leigh Ann King said the boys’ varsity basketball team was to present a wooden memorial to the Seneca East student body in memory of the Seneca East students who perished in a house fire in late 2012. The plaque was made by Bettsville student Jacob Grine in his precision machining class at Sentinel Career Center.
Bettsville sophomore students are to visit Sentinel Jan. 23 for an informational tour. Heidelberg University and Owens Community College representatives are to be on the Bettsville campus this year. Athletic Director Justin Orr spoke to the board regarding his meeting with fellow athletic directors in discussion of minimum athletes required to compose basketball, softball and baseball teams. In advance of seasons, these requirements have so far been met.
Leslie Hunker was appointed Ohio School Boards Association liaison, Nick Baker as student achievement liaison and Michelle Davis as Vanguard-Sentinel representative for a three-year term that started Jan. 1. Davis also was approved to be board president with Baker as vice president.
The board approved board meetings to continue on the second Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. with next meeting Feb. 14.
