Free family activities Saturday at TU center

The annual Family Fest is to “Reach for the Stars” 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday in Heminger Center at Tiffin University. More than 50 vendors are to be on hand to distribute information, offer activities and gifts, and take questions about their products and services. Co-chairman Denny Wilkinson said he hopes area residents will come out for this free event.

Entertainment is to be offered by students from the Heidelberg Community Music School and librarians from Tiffin-Seneca Public Library. Mascots from schools, agencies and businesses are to be roaming around, greeting children and posing for photos. The special attraction this year is the planetarium from Imagination Station in Toledo.

“We will also have the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary doing presentations on boat safety and wearing and using life jackets while boating or in the water,” Wilkinson said. “The Seneca County EMS will be displaying one of the county EMS units. Mercy St. Vincent Life Flight will fly over and have a mobile unit on display.”

The Seneca County Water Rescue Unit is to be on display, as well as Tiffin Fire and Rescue Division equipment. The Fraternal Order of Police is to set up its Safety City layout to teach children how to stay safe. There are to be bounce houses for children to play in. Bloomville Police Department is to give away tickets to Great Wolf Lodge.

“We also have movie passes being given away. These are donated by Field of Dreams drive in of Tiffin. There will also be a number of other door prizes given away during the event,” Wilkinson said.

Other prizes include bicycle helmets, four Jet Express tickets and African Safari tickets donated by WTSC radio. Tables of household and miscellaneous items are free for the taking. Victims Assistance and Tiffin Optimist Club are to sell food and beverages in the lobby at Heminger.

Admission and all activities are free. Parking is available next to Gillmor Center on Miami Street, where free shuttles will pick up those heading to Family Fest.
