April schedule for small business seminars

FREMONT The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Terra State Community College is to offer free, two-hour seminars, “Small Business Basics.”

Seminars are to teach name registration, licensing, taxes, zoning, business entities, employees, insurance, financing and business planning.

The schedule is:

9:30-11:30 a.m. April 2 at the Ottawa County Improvement Corp., 8043 W. SR163, Oak Harbor.

9:30-11:30 a.m. April 9 at the Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce, 19 W. Market St., Tiffin.

9:30-11:30 a.m. April 16 at the Erie County Chamber of Commerce, 225 W. Washington Row, Sandusky.

4:30-6:30 p.m. April 23 at Terra State Community College, 2830 Napoleon Road, Fremont.

TU professors publish works

Tiffin University Professor Lisa Kahle-Piasecki’s paper, “Business in Costa Rica: Trends and Issues,” has been published in the Journal of Applied Business and Economics.

Adjunct Professor Stavroula Kalogeras’s paper, “Storytelling: An Ancient Human Technology and a Critical-Creative Pedagogy for Transformative Learning,” has been published in the International Journal of Information and Communication Technology.

OSU plant science scholarship opportunity

The Ohio State University Seneca County Master Gardeners are offering a $500 non-renewable scholarship to be awarded annually.

The scholarship is to be available only to college students entering their junior year of college or doing graduate work. The applicant is to be pursuing a plant science degree, such as in the areas of agronomy, botany, horticulture, forestry or landscaping. Also, the applicant is to be a Seneca County resident or a graduate of a Seneca County high school.

An applicant packet can be picked up at the OSU Extension office, 3140 S. SR 100. Completed applicantions are to be returned or mailed to the extension office by April 15.

Students to attend Ashland

ASHLAND – The following local residents have been accepted into Ashland University for the fall 2014 semester.

Alexia Payne of Tiffin is to receive an Ambassador Award for $1,500 annually; Alexis Leakey of Attica is to receive a Director’s Scholarship for $7,000 annually; and Alexis Weber of Clyde is to receive a Director’s Scholarship for $7,000.

Local students graduate from Wright State

DAYTON Local students Jamin Fuller and Kaycee Hallett, both of Tiffin, recently earned degrees from Wright State University.

Hocking College dean’s list

NELSONVILLE Hocking College has announced the following local students have been named to the dean’s list for fall semester 2013:

Jonathan Hale of Bloomville and Cayla Liebold of Green Springs.

Fostorian named to sorority

ASHLAND Frances DiCesare of Fostoria has been named a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority at Ashland University.

Columbian grad earns OAC honor

Kali Fittro, a 2012 graduate from Columbian High School, earned all-OAC honors for indoor track from Baldwin-Wallace University.

Fittro placed third in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18.41. Her team overall placed third at the OAC Indoor Championships.

Columbus State dean’s list

COLUMBUS Columbus State Community College has announced students named to the 2013 fall semester dean’s list.

Local students include Kelly Hosang of Attica, Devin Cartwright of Tiffin and Joel Duress of Upper Sandusky.

TSC scholarships to be awarded

During the second annual Growing Scholarship program sponsored by Tractor Supply Co., 334 scholarships have been awarded to FFA members.

Tractor Supply Co. customers across the country donated $447,671.
