Reverend to talk about ministry to Asia Sunday

The Rev. Louis Reindel of the Bradford Church of the Nazarene is to visit First Church of the Nazarene, 777 TR 201, Tiffin (next to Sentinel Vocational School) at 6 p.m. Sunday for a missionary service.

Reindel is to share “The Can Ministry For Asia” program. He is leading his church in collecting cans for financial support of the Church of the Nazarene in India.

Reindel has traveled to Ukraine, Turkey and India. He also has traveled to New Orleans to assist with clean up after Katrina, inner-city Philadelphia, and a Native American reservation in Cherokee, North Carolina.

Refreshments are planned after the service.

Tiffin church has homecoming this weekend

Tiffin Freewill Baptist Church, 129 Eighth Ave., plans to celebrate homecoming this weekend. Gospel singing is to begin at 6 p.m. today, and Freddie Dutton is to preach during worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday. There is to be no Sunday school or service Sunday night. Mother Teresa Shrine to be dedicated Sept. 10

A special Mass is to begin at 4 p.m. Sept. 10 for the dedication of the Mother Teresa shrine at the Sorrowful Mother Shrine on SR 269 south of Bellevue. Mass is to be in the outdoor Pieta Chapel, followed by a procession to the new shrine, where the statue and site are to be blessed.

Afterward, light refreshments are to be served in the Pilgrim Center Cafeteria. Mother Teresa is to be canonized a saint Sept. 4 in Rome.

Findlay monsignor to preside at Mass Sept. 4 in Carey

For the Year of Mercy celebration at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, Sept. 4, Msgr. Michael G. Hohenbrink is to preside at the noon Mass. The sacrament of reconciliation is to be offered 11 a.m.-noon. The day is to conclude with 2:30 p.m. devotions with an outdoor rosary procession.

Hohenbrink is pastor of St. Michael’s Church in Findlay and serves as dean of the St. Francis Deanery, which includes area Catholic churches. In December 2010, he was given the title of monsignor, a term of distinction that honors clergy for their service to the church.

The title means a priest has been made an honorary member of the pope’s household. Hohenbrink is an honorary chaplain to the pope; others are honorary prelates.

Respect life event set for Oct. 2

A rosary/respect life event is set for Oct. 2 at the Sorrowful Mother Shrine, 4106 SR 269 south of Bellevue. It is to begin with exposition of the blessed sacrament at 2:30 p.m., followed by a procession through the shrine woods with the recitation of the mysteries of the rosary. Those who wish to may remain in the outdoor Pieta Chapel for benediction of the blessed sacrament and a blessing with the Relic of the True Cross.

October is the month of the holy rosary.
