Fishing derby brings unusual catch for kid

Beca Kimmet’s 9-inch striped bass was the most unusual catch during Tiffin Park & Recreation’s annual youth fishing derby at the pond on the Izaak Walton League grounds.

Kids ages 17 and younger participated in a day of fishing in conjunction with National Fishing Week.

The award for the first fish caught went to Jenna Harrison for her 8 1/2-inch bluegill.

Award for the largest fish in ages 7 and younger category was Hayleigh Peck, 18-inch catfish. Most fish were caught by Nolan Miller, Camryn Brill and Taylor Solomon, each with five fish.

In the ages 8-10 group, the largest fish was caught by Lars Garret, a 10 1/2-inch bass. The most fish were caught by Gavin Kirian, Gracie Solomon and Mitchell Smith, each with six fish.

Among ages 11 and older, the largest fish caught was Arianna Albert’s 12-inch bass. The most fish were caught by Nathan Kimmet with 17, Beca Kimmet with nine and Joshua Kimmet with seven.
