Fathers to be honored downtown Saturday
Because this Sunday is Father’s Day, Family and Children First Council has organized a Dad Fest 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday on Courthouse Square in downtown Tiffin. The theme of “Celebrating the Superpowers of Dads” is carried out in free T-shirts for the first 200 dads, prize drawings and educational activities.
Director Sharon George said Dad Fest originated from an initiative of the Ohio Fatherhood Commission to encourage and celebrate responsible fatherhood during the month of June. In the past, WSOS, First Step and Patchworks House have hosted fatherhood activities. OFC offered funding of up to $2,500 for a 2014 event.
“What we decided it would be is a celebration focusing on the importance of fathers in kids’ lives,” George said.
Seneca County commissioners have drafted a proclamation to designate June as Responsible Fatherhood Month. Whitney Addison of the Ohio Fatherhood Commission is expected to offer remarks.
George said 15-20 CROSSWAEH clients also have signed up to attend.
At Dad Fest, fathers from all kinds of families can learn about resources from 15 community organizations.
Each booth will have literature, displays and activities. In addition, brief presentations are to take place 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Food also is to be available.
Part of the event funding was used to buy dad-friendly prizes from Tiffin Ace Hardware. Dads who register will receive a ticket to place in the box next to the prizes they want to win.
Each presenter and each booth will give out additional tickets to dads who stop there.
There is no charge for any part of the event.
