Steel drum band concert to benefit area meal program

FOSTORIA – The Glass City Steel Drum Band is to give a concert dubbed “Feeding the Soul” to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Fostoria Feed My Kids summer meal program.

The musical celebration is to run 2-4:30 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, 201 W. Fremont St., Fostoria. The event includes refreshments and the chance to participate in auctions and silent auctions of gift baskets and other items. All auction proceeds are to support the communitywide Feed My Kids program.

Started in 1993 by the First Presbyterian Church’s youth group and their advisers, Richard and Joanne Sabbagh, the free summer meal program is open each Tuesday and Thursday to complement the city’s Sharing Kitchen. The program since has expanded to accommodate the entire family and last summer served a total of 3,763 meals.

Glass City Steel is a performance group from the Toledo School for the Arts featuring Caribbean steel drum bands.

Admission to “Feeding the Soul” is free. For more information, call (419) 435-3131 or (419) 937-3928.
