Documentary to be shown at Ritz
Tiffin University’s school of criminal justice and social science is sponsoring a free screening of the documentary, “Coexist,” which documents the stories of survivors of the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
Adam Mazo, director and executive producer of “Coexist,” will be a special guest at the screening 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at The Ritz Theatre in downtown Tiffin.
Admission is free.
The 40-minute documentary has been featured at film festivals, conferences, schools and universities worldwide. It tells stories of the 1994 Rwandan genocide survivors as they search for ways to coexist with their loved ones’ murderers and their efforts to “re-humanize” the attackers and reconstruct a society.
Women who survived the Rwandan genocide in 1994, perpetrators, scholars, social commentators, and activists share their perspectives. Survivors reveal their feelings on confronting killers and having little choice but to interact with them daily, as they cope with the long-lasting trauma of losing their families.
