Ritz Players to present ‘[title of show]’

PHOTO SUBMITTED In the Ritz Players musical comedy, “[title of show],” the cast strikes a pose at the finale of one of the show’s signature songs, “Die Vampire, Die.”

The Ritz Players are to present “[title of show]” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and May 19 and at 2 p.m. May 20 at The National Theatre at The Ritz, 30 S. Washington St.

The production, with music and lyrics by Jeff Bowen and based on the book of the same name by Hunter Bell, is produced with special arrangements with R&H Theatricals.

Jeff and Hunter, two self-confessed nobodies in New York, make a pact to write an original musical and submit it to a festival. The only catch — the deadline is in three weeks. They gather their two actress friends, Susan and Heidi, and their accompanist and music director, Larry. With the full team, Jeff and Hunter hit another roadblock — what should they write about? Jeff and Hunter decide to follow the old adage, “write what you know,” and set off on a unique musical adventure: writing a musical about writing a musical. As the deadline looms, insecurities creep in and jealousies flare. Will the team succeed? Could they even win a Tony?

Under direction of Charles Groth of Bloomville, cast members include Daniel Bradshaw of Marion (Jeff), Hannah Mathias of Tiffin (Heidi), Wes Vollmar of Findlay (Hunter), Amanda Zucker of Marion (Susan) and Jim Besch of Marion (Larry).

Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students.
