Estate-planning attorney to discuss matters of life and death Sunday

This weekend, Tiffin Right to Life and Knights of Columbus are hosting an event featuring the director of Patients Rights Council.

Jason Negri, an estate-planning attorney and director for Patients Rights Council, is to speak about end-of-life issues.

A public presentation is to take place at 3 p.m. Sunday at Somerset reception hall at the Commission on Aging building, 382 S. Huron St. Negri also is to talk to members of the clergy and individuals who work in the medical and legal professions later that day.

Dena Schreiner, who is helping promote the event, said it is for people who need to know what to do at the end of life and know who the right people are to trust to make end-of-life decisions.

Topics to be discussed include whether a living will do what is expected and how a living will is insufficient in protecting someone from forfeiting their right to necessary medication and/or treatment.

“Mr. Negri will touch on the basic questions every person needs to know,” Schreiner said. “Death is a natural thing and it will be good to know the process of dying.”

Schriener said the event will present a clear idea of what the laws are about.
