Dixie Peach coming to Moose

Local musicians Tony Paulus and Steve Williams are performing in Tiffin May 18 to promote the new Dixie Peach CD, “Blues With Friends.” The party is at 8 p.m. at the Tiffin Moose.

The rest of the band is traveling from the Dayton area for this event. Brazin Bull is to serve as the opener.

Dixie Peach had its start in the 1970s, but the musicians parted ways for about 20 years before reuniting. The band includes Ira Stanley on lead and slide guitars; Steve Benson on drums, percussion; Mike Rousculp, bass; Paulus on keyboards, guitar; and Williams on keyboards. All contribute vocals.

The 10 tracks on “Blues With Friends” are new and original. Williams spoke by phone to say the CD was a long time coming, as the group only plays together for a few special events each year. Paulus penned “Trouble With Love,” but Stanley wrote the other nine tunes that range from the sad “It’s Cryin’ Time” to the silly “Pork Chop Blues.”

“The album was a labor of love for Ira,” Williams said. “He had a health scare … and felt a need to do this.”

With some material left over, the band is hoping to make at least one more CD. Net proceeds from the CD release party are to be donated to the Tiffin pool fund, because “kids gotta swim,” he said.
