NR council welcomes new member

NEW RIEGEL — New Riegel Village Council welcomed new member Rick Kessler at Tuesday’s meeting. Kessler will be completing the two-year term vacated by Deidre Bakies. He also accepted the duties of chairman of the Finance Committee.

The Halloween parade in New Riegel is scheduled for Oct 27. Participants are asked to be in the American Legion parking lot at 1 p.m., and the parade will kick off at 2 p.m., ending at the school. Mayor Larry Bouillon and council members will join the parade. The sheriff’s office is to help with the procession.

Costume judging will follow the parade at the school. Village trick-or-treat is scheduled from 2:30-4 p.m.

Council announced that fall leaf cleanup is under way. Leaves must be bagged in ordinary trash bags and be at the curb by 8 a.m. The once-weekly collection will continue until leaf season is complete.

Bouillon said he was pleased to announce the 2019 sidewalk replacement project has been completed and school crosswalks have been painted. The guardrail protecting the juncture of South and Tiffin streets has been completed. The ditch cleaning project and the removal of four damaged trees remain to be completed before the end of the year.

Restrooms at the village park are to be closed for the season after the parade Oct 27.

Council gave its approval for the fiscal officer to attend a training session in Columbus. The village will cover her expenses.

The council passed an emergency resolution accepting the taxing rates as determined by the county’s budget commission.

Council members have been asked to assess the remaining sidewalks throughout the village that will need attention next season. There was discussion about whether the sidewalks should be continued to all the village limits.
