Nichols’ double-double leads surging Dragons
HILLSDALE — It was a big night for Aarion Nichols, and a big night for the Dragons.
Nichols had 24 points and 12 rebounds Thursday, and the Tiffin women won for the fourth time in five games, topping Great Midwest Athletic Conference rival Hillsdale, 80-73.
While Nichols — who probably has been the Dragons best overall player this season — shined, freshman Savanah Richards continued a solid run with another strong contest.
Richards finished with 18 points, going 8 of 8 from the foul line as the Dragons improved to 11-14, 6-9.
The Dragons led Hillsdale 51-48, after three quarters, then shot better than 58 percent from the floor in the fourth to put the game away.
Jada Tate added nine points and four rebounds, while Liberty-Benton graduate Jenson Hiegel and Jasmine Watts had seven points each.
The Dragons have three games left in the regular season. They travel to Findlay Saturday afternoon.
“Our team has bought in to doing the little things on both ends of the floor,” TU coach Jessie Ivey said. “We have a very young team who has stayed focused to growing every day and we are seeing the fruition of their hard work and dedication to the process.”
Hillsdale (6-18, 3-12) was led by Grace Touchette, who finished with 24 points and four assists. Jaycie Burger added 16 points and Sydney Anderson scored 10.
