Nichols brilliant as Dragons win seventh conference game
Aarion Nichols dished, rebounded and scored.
With 14 points, 16 rebounds and six assists, Nichols helped push Tiffin University over Ohio Valley, 71-64.
The Dragons improved to 12-15, 7-10 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. It was a big win, as Tiffin kept hold of the seventh seed in the upcoming conference tournament. The Dragons end their regular season with Kentucky Wesleyan next week.
“Today was a huge game for us and our program,” said Tiffin coach Jessie Ivey. “It was a great opportunity for our kids to rise to the occasion and they did just that. They made big plays when they needed to and I couldn’t be more proud of this team.”
The Dragons have been better in the second half of the season, and a big reason for that has been the play of freshman Savanah Richards. Richards only was 3 of 12 from the floor Saturday, but she went 12 of 14 from the free throw line and finished with a team-high 19 points. She also had seven rebounds and four steals. Brooke Wesner added 17 points for Tiffin.
The Dragons took control of the game by outscoring Ohio Valley 26-13 in the third quarter.
Ohio Valley (4-19, 1-15) were paced by Imani Ward, who had 22 points and 13 rebounds, and by Akiya Brown, who scored 17 points. Kyrin Baklund added 14 points.
