Mount Union stretches win streak to 11, trips Heidelberg

ALLIANCE — Mount Union came into Saturday’s game with Heidelberg as the Ohio Athletic Conference’s best.
The Purple Raiders came into Saturday’s game with a 20-3 record, and were 15-1 in the OAC.
That one league blemish came against Heidelberg, which defeated Mount Union 68-67 Jan. 4 at Seiberling Gymnasium.
The Purple Raiders haven’t lost since.
Saturday, Mount Union avenged that loss. Nathan Bower-Malone had 22 points, five rebounds and seven assists, while Collen Gurley had 17 points and Logan Hill added 14. D’Vontay Friga had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Mount Union won for the 11th straight time, dropping Heidelberg 93-80.
Heidelberg’s Tamal Watkins scored a team-best 19 points for the Student Princes, dishing three assists. Dylan Woods scored 17 for HU, while Curt Jacobs had 18 points.
The loss dropped Heidelberg to 10-13, 8-8.
HU women fall in Alliance
ALLIANCE –Mount Union did something that has been difficult for most Ohio Athletic Conference teams the last few years.
It controlled Heidelberg’s Maddy Crawford.
The Willard graduate, a leading rebounder and scorer for the Student Princes, scored 11 points, but had just six rebounds Saturday.
The Purple Raiders outrebounded Heidelberg 48-37. held HU without a 3-pointer, and defeated the Student Princes, 82-58 Saturday in Alliance
Madison Hensley had 18 points and Elena Rauhe had 17 points for the Purple Raiders, who improved to 14-9, 8-8 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Heidelberg made 23 of 61 field goal attempts, and was 0 of 8 from 3-point range.
Brooke Beamer had 16 points for Heidelberg, while Bailey Walter had seven points and seven rebounds.
The Princes fell to 8-15, 4-12.
