Burst in third helps St. Paul stave off BC
ASHLAND — Norwalk St. Paul powered past Buckeye Central in the third quarter and kept the Bucks at bay from there Tuesday to earn a 58-51 Division IV victory in the opening round of the postseason.
Buckeye Central (3-20), seeded 11th in the district, led the No. 3 seed Flyers 24-21 at halftime before getting outscored 20-11 in the third period.
St. Paul (15-8) advances to face Mohawk at 8 p.m. Friday.
Jordan Shepherd tallied 20 points and eight rebounds for St. Paul, Brandon Furlong scored 15 points, Nick Winslow had 11 points, seven boards, six assist and four blocks, Nate Winslow snared five steals and Scotty Adelman had three steals.
Jake Heefner’s 16 points and seven rebounds keyed the Bucks while Aiden McDougal had 14 points and three assists.
Alex Kanney added nine points and four assists, Brady Kerschner chipped in 11 boards and three blocks, Tyler Rose dished five assists and Damian Dean had three assists.
