Lakota’s Franks, Carey’s May claim Thunderbird titles

LIMA — Lakota’s Trevor Franks and Carey’s Tanner May won titles back-to-back Saturday to highlight area efforts at the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbird Invitational.

Franks improved to 28-0 and earned career win No. 150 by beating Waynedale’s Micah Hershberger 7-5 for the 170-pound championship.

May took the 182-pound crown by pinning Blanchester’s Kaden Berwanger (3:47).

Waynedale upended Allen East 246 1/2-229 1/2 for the team trophy in the 41-team field.

Carey came in 10th (81), Lakota took 19th (59 1/2) and Calvert ended tied with West Liberty-Salem for 33rd (19).

Reece Mullholand added a sixth for Carey at 126 pounds, sevenths went to 120-pounder Lance Rickle and 220-pounder Isaac Carmen, and Hayden Jacoby finished eighth at 160 pounds.

Mullholand lost 7-5 to Miami East’s Garrett Kowalak. Rickle earned a forfeit win against Allen East’s Jordan Kennedy. Carmen pinned Covington’s Jesse Fisher (2:28). Jacoby lost 8-3 to Mark Wrasman of St. John’s.

Lakota’s Spencer Franks ended fourth at 195 pounds after losing 9-1 to Otsego’s Cade Limes.

Calvert 106-pounder Kaylor Reynolds finished sixth after a 6-4 loss to Waynedale’s Caiden Heller.

Four titles fuel runner-up Fliers

CLYDE — Four Clyde grapplers captured titles and two more claimed second Saturday to catapult the Fliers to the runner-up spot at their own Dale Carroll Invitational.

Nordonia held off Clyde 235 1/2-234 for the team championship in the 12-team event.

Cameron Krueger gave the Fliers their first crown by pinning Highland 145-pounder Warren Wright (4:49).

Derick Coleman followed at 160 pounds with a 12-2 major decision against Huron’s JaSharein Holiday.

Ben Seavers battled past Lexington’s Ammon Parr for the 220-pound title.

Clyde’s Trenton Mominee took the 285-pound top spot with a 3-0 mark in pool competition.

The runner-up spots for the Fliers came from 126-pounder James Batesole and 138-pounder Tyson West. Batesole suffered a 3-2 loss to Jerome Scott of John Adams, and West lost 12-6 to Nordonia’s Tyler Angus.

Thirds for Clyde went to 132-pounder Rush Andres and 170-pounder Cade Carroll. Andres pinned Noah Ulery of Lucas (5:31) and Carroll pinned Huron’s Mason Luipold (:49).

Dalton Boyd and Walker Britt each added a fourth for Clyde. Boyd posted a 2-3 record at 106 pounds while Britt, competing as an extra wrestler at 220 pounds, lost via default to Bowsher’s Kyro Cameron.

SE gains three

crowns, BC claims third

WILLARD — Seneca East had three champions but Buckeye Central had more placers Saturday, and the Bucks used that advantage to capture third at the Dutch Maid Logistics Invitational.

Lima Shawnee powered past host Willard 231-167 for the team title, with Buckeye Central upending Fremont Ross 150-140 1/2 for third. Seneca East ended sixth (115) in the 10-team field.

Davey Williams ended second at 152 pounds and Kaiden Vaughn did the same at 195 to lead Buckeye Central. Williams went 3-1 in pool competition while Vaughn finished 2-1.

Thirds for the Bucks went to 132-pounder Kamdyn Vanderpool, 138-pounder Darrien Albright and 170-pounder Eli Smith. Vanderpool finished 3-2, Albright went 1-2 and Smith pinned Medina’s Gavin Hules (1:40).

Jacob Maxhimer added a fourth with a 3-2 record at 220 pounds for Buckeye Central, and fifths went to 120-pounder Grady Schafer, 126-pounder Isaac Krebs, 145-pounder Bladyn Hernandez and 182-pounder TyNesha Bishop.

Krebs pinned Valley Forge’s Jordan Howard (1:41), and Schafer, Hernandez and Bishoip each ended 0-4.

William Laferty competed as an extra wrestler at 220 pounds and finished sixth with an 0-5 mark.

Seneca East’s titles came from 113-pounder Hunter Lacy, 132-pounder Luke Bischoff and 138-pounder Dakota Laughlin.

Lacy finished 2-0, Bishoff went 5-0 and Laughlin turned in a 3-0 record for the Tigers.

Logan Johnson added a fourth at 120 pounds for Seneca East with a 1-3 record, and 285-pounder Dustin Smith pinned Valley Forge’s Joay Vasil (:41) to end fifth.

McDaniel takes second at Sally George

MARION — Brayzin McDaniel claimed second Saturday to lead Upper Sandusky to seventh at the Marion Sally George Invitational.

Pleasant’s C.J. Smith pinned McDaniel (5:44) for the 145-pound title.

The Rams also got a fourth from 113-pounder Gage Ebert, fifths from 106-pounder Frank Depinet and 132-pounder Roman Gullifer, and sixths from 195-pounder Blake Herbert and 285-pounder Creighton Morton.

Whitehall’s Steven Francelli beat Ebert 6-2. Depinet pinned Whitehall’s Shea Jordan (1:54). Gullifer beat Dublin Jerome’s Luke Milanovich 7-5. Herbert lost 4-1 to Liberty Center’s Owen Box. Northmor’s Hunter Brookover pinned Morton (:14).

Pleasant cruised past London 249-163 1/2 for the title. Upper Sandusky scored 93 1/2 points for seventh in the 21-team tournament.
