Fast start paces Blue Devils past Black Knights

VAN BUREN — Carey started well Monday with a 16-3 first quarter and then held off Van Buren for a 41-32 non-league win.

Alaina Tiell led the Blue Devils (6-5) with 12 points, while Bailey Tanner added 10 points. Ellison Roark pulled down 10 rebounds and dished three assists.

Agnes Durliat led the Black Knights with 12 points. Zoe Horne added eight points.

VAN BUREN — Hayden Stone had his way in the paint Monday with 25 points and 12 rebounds for Carey in a 71-63 non-conference victory over Van Buren.

Stone, a 6-foot-8 University of findlay commit, made 11 field goals.

The Blue Devils (7-3) trailed 20-17 after the opening quarter, but outscored the Black Knights (6-5) 34-26 over the next two quarters to gain a lead.

Isaiah Hoepf added 19 points, Ian Yeater had 11 points and Cade Crawford finished with nine points for the Blue Devils.

Willard wins both

FREMONT — Despite another strong day from Old Fort’s Hayden Tarris, Willard topped the Stockader boys 2,042-1,738, while the girls also beat Old Fort, 1,890-1,230 Monday at Fremont Plaza Lanes.

Tarris rolled a 433 two-game score, including a 247 in Game 1. Dylan Halbiesen added a 282 for OF, while Charles Bryant (266), Shayne Yeager (239) and Joey Brumbaugh (125) also played. Elijah Hopple rolled a 99 in Game 1. The Stockaders rolled a 294 in the Baker games.

For Willard, Drew Ericsson recorded a 396, Riley Barnett added a 382, Kaleab Schmidt had a 164, Austin Wallace rolled a 161 and Andrew Schole had a 155. Wyatt Fullard (149), Austin Wallace (120) and Luke Stein (116) also played. The Crimson Flashes rolled a 399 in the Baker games.

In the girls match, Willard’s Lynzee Smith led all bowlers with a 362 series. Jillian Ericsson added a 346, Abigail Kenestrek had a 341, Sage Ott added a 294, Carissa Metcalfe bowled a 122 and Emily Jackson ended with a 114. The Flashes rolled a 311 in the Baker games.

Old Fort got a 244 from Courtney Burd, a 22 from Amy Corfman, a 177 by Kate Drown, a 154 from Lennyn Druckenmiller, an 86 by Sienna Cobb and a 71 from Kiara Contreras.
