Columbian’s Conley powers way to finals
OREGON — Brody Conley pinned his way into the finals Friday to lead Columbian’s efforts on the first day of the Maumee Bay Classic.
Conley will face Elyria’s Enrique Munguia in today’s 152-pound finals.
He advanced to the finals by pinning Solon’s Andrew Bican (2:47), Port Clinton’s Mason Elson (3:38) — handing Elson his first loss of the year — and Brighton’s Aiden Brown (3:01).
Fellow Tornadoes Bret Minnick (126), Maddox Simcoe (132), Joey Simcoe (170) and Kasean Hatlay (182) remained alive in the consolation brackets.
Of those four, Hatlay came the closest to the semifinals, falling 5-1 in the quarterfinals to Oak Harbor’s Wyatt Miller.
Minnick suffered a 4-3 loss to Toledo Waite’s Ricardo Oviedo in the third championship round, while Maddox Simcoe and Joey Simcoe each lost in the second championship round. All three rebounded with wins in the consolation rounds to reach the mat today.
