Six area teams set for playoffs

Six area football teams have qualified for the OHSAA playoffs, which begin this weekend.

In Division III, Columbian (9-1) finished with the No. 3 seed. It will host Parma Heights Holy Name (8-2) Friday at Frost-Kalnow Stadium.

Two area Division IV teams reached the postseason, with Ed Nasonti’s Bellevue Redmen (6-4) returning to the playoff this season as a No. 7 seed in Region 14. Getting the eighth seed — in the same region — was Clyde.

Both teams will be on the road for Saturday games. Bellevue travels to Wauseon (8-2), while Clyde will be heading to LaGrange Keystone (9-1).

In Division VI’s Region 22, it was Seneca East who received the area’s highest seed. The Tigers (9-1), who were state semifinalists a year ago, will host Creston Norwayne (5-5) Friday night. In the same region is the only team to defeat the Tigers this year, 5-5 Carey. The Blue Devils will travel to face top-seeded Western Reserve (9-1) Friday.

The lone area team to make the playoffs in Division VII is Mohawk.

The Warriors (6-4) received the eighth seed in Region 26, and will travel to Leipsic (9-1) Saturday night.

It is a rematch from the first round of the playoffs last season, when the then top-seeded Warriors were defeated by the Vikings.

All postseason games this week will kickoff at 7 p.m.
