No. 25 Dragons can clinch share of league with victory
Tiffin can clinch at least a share of the Great-Midwest Athletic Conference today with a win.
It’s not gonna be easy.
The Dragons, who are ranked 25th in Division II, will host 6-3 Hillsdale today at 1 p.m. At Frost-Kalnow Stadium.
The Chargers (6-3, 4-1) won the conference title last season.
It’s a big game, but Tiffin coach Cris Reisert said he doesn’t want his team changing its game.
“Our thing is, we don’t have to do anything different, we just need to play good football and execute,” Reisert said.
The Dragons have been executing well during a six-game winning streak, which has put it in the driver’s seat in the G-MAC standings.
“I just want to see great energy, see great competition,” Reisert said. “I want us to play really hard. If we do those three things, and we execute, we’re gonna be just fine.”
Still, Reisert, who played and coached at Ohio Dominican, knows Hillsdale well, and he knows it will be a tough opponent.
“I think they’re always really consistent,” Reisert said of the Chargers. “They play hard, they play really good fundamental football. It’s been one of the least penalized teams in the country. They’re very well coached. So, when you play a team like Hillsdale, you have to beat them. They’re not gonna beat themselves. They’re not gonna get out of gap on defense, they’re not gonna make mistakes on offense. You’re gonna have to outplay them and out-hit them and out-compete them in order to get a win.”
The Dragons had a bye last week, which Reisert said came at a good time.
“I think it was good, mostly to see us get healthy. This time of the season, guys are a little banged up, a little bruised up,” he said. “I think it’s good to be able to step away from it, have a couple days off, where you can just kind of live life for a little bit…be ready to settle down and attack the next couple weeks.”
