TU, ‘Berg players selected in XFL draft

Pro Football

The dream of professional football continues for two players with local college ties.

Tiffin University product Willie Mays and Heidelberg University graduate Donteea Dye were both selected in separate rounds of XFL draft Thursday by the Los Angeles Wildcats.

Each round of Thursday’s draft focused on a specific area of play — skill players, offensive linemen and defensive linemen.

Dye was LA’s first pick in Round 10 (73rd overall) in the skills players portion of the draft.

He formerly played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL and the Orlando Apollos in the now-defunct Alliance of American Football.

Mays was LA’s fifth pick in Round 4 (29th overall) in the defensive linemen portion of the draft.

The Wildcats will play in the XFL’s Western Division, along with the Dallas Renegades, Houston Roughnecks and Seattle Dragons.

The Eastern Division will include the D.C. Defenders, New York Guardians, St. Louis BattleHawks and Tampa Bay Vipers.

The XFL’s first game occurs Feb. 8.
