State-ranked New Riegel outlasts H-L in 5

BASCOM — New Riegel was on its way to a sweep of rival Hopewell-Loudon Monday after winning the first two sets.

However, H-L didn’t get the memo.

The Chieftains took the Blue Jackets to five sets but fell short in a 27-25, 25-15, 20-25, 23-25, 18-16 Sandusky Bay Conference River Division win for state-ranked New Riegel.

Brooklyn Gillig made 35 digs for the Blue Jackets, who ranked eighth in Division IV in the first state volleyball poll. Kaitlyn Kirian hammered 22 kills and Aubrey Bouillon notched 15 kills, 21 digs and 15 assists.

For H-L, Abbi Roerdink collected seven kills, 42 assists and two blocks, Peyton Hoover had three aces, 10 kills and 17 digs, Hope Kreais blasted 14 kills and a pair of blocks, Megan Kreais and Elizabeth Wells both smacked eight kills apiece, Abbe Beidelschies made 10 digs, Grace Dohanyos had two kills and 18 digs and Brynn Carrel ended with seven digs.

No. 5 Calvert sinks Raiders

Calvert dominated Lakota Monday in a 25-8, 25-12, 25-10 Sandusky Bay Conference River Division victory.

The No. 5 Senecas — in Division IV — got 11 kills and three blocks from Zoe Meyer, eight kills and seven digs by Hannah Miller, eight kills and a pair of blocks by Kate Rombach, eight digs by Ashlyn Jones, a pair of aces and 25 assists by Emma White and two aces from AJ Hemminger.

Seneca East sweeps New London

ATTICA — Seneca East made quick work of New London in non-league play Monday in a 25-15, 25-12, 25-18 victory.

Jessica Bowerman led the winners with 14 kills, eight digs and eight assists, while Mallory Beamer slammed five kills, Alexis Hicks tallied nine kills and three blocks, Tori Fritz added five kills, four assists and 11 digs, Katrina Kagy had three kills and a pair of blocks, Hillary Bogner made five digs and three aces and Megan Rife ended with 11 digs and 15 assists.

The Tigers improved to 7-3.

Warriors notch 7th win

UPPER SANDUSKY — Upper Sandusky got to 20 points twice Monday, but that was as close to Mohawk as it got in a 25-20, 25-9, 25-20 Northern 10 Athletic Conference victory for the Warriors.

Paityn Clouse compiled nine kills, five blocks and two aces for Mohawk (7-2, 5-1 N10). It also got six kills from Catherine Klopp, five kills and a pair of blocks from Emma Thiery, four kills, five digs and six aces from Tess Weinandy, four kills by Marah Gillig, two kills, 24 assists, six digs, two blocks and two aces from Alexa Konkle and nine digs from Ellie Shaw. Jordan Tyree made five digs and Ella Hoover made a pair of digs.

Jenna Kurtz led the Rams (2-7) with eight kills, seven digs and a pair of blocks, while Eve Smith tallied 14 assists, Emily Hill had seven kills and 11 digs, Jadyn Smalley made 12 digs and Sydney Stuckman finished with three kills and three aces.

Old Forts gets to .500

GIBSONBURG — Grace Wasserman delivered 12 kills and a pair of blocks for Old Fort in a 25-13, 25-20, 25-11 win against Gibsonburg in Sandusky Bay Conference River Division action.

Backing Wasserman for the Stockaders (4-4, 4-2 SBC) were Chloe Wilkinson with nine kills, Savannah McCoy with seven kills and four digs, Emily Hull with six aces and 20 assists, Jordan Reineck with four aces and four digs, Emily Blankenship with five digs and 12 assists, MarcQue Harris with a pair of kills and seven digs and Ashlyn Magers with eight digs.
