Willard cruises to victory at Bob Wilson tournament
CLYDE — Willard won each of the doubles classes, as well as second and third singles Saturday, and won the Bob Wilson Memorial Tournament at Clyde.
The Flashes scored 44 points, upending Southview, which had four second-place finishes and ended with 34.
Bellevue’s Rayven Whyde won the first singles at the event. She beat Huron”s Riley Frye, 6-2, 6-3, Willard’s Addison Paxton 0-6, 6-2, 11-9 and in the championship match, topped Southview’s Ashley Blackford, 7-5, 7-5. Whyde helped the Lady Red to a third-place team finish, with 28 points.
Clyde finished fourth with 22 points. It’s best finish came at second doubles, with Hali Hagemeyer and Averie Fritz took second. The Flier duo lost the championship match to Willard’s Becca Slone and Kalli Sowers, 6-2, 6-3.
Huron (18) was fifth, and Calvert (4) took sixth. The Senecas lone placer was Kara Brodman, who took fourth at second singles.
