Lady Red move to 2-1 with sweep of Panthers

SANDUSKY — Sandusky St. Mary challenged Bellevue Wednesday, but in the end, the Lady Red captured a 5-0 win.

At singles, Rayven Whyde beat Sara Bias 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, while Summer Strunk topped Mallory Parish 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 and Dakota Zerman upended Julia Loeffer 6-4, 7-6 (7-0) at No. 3.

Sage Garcia and Leighann Motley took down Hailey Bahnsen and Jaycee Killian 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Perla Monreal and Ella Little defeated Mena London and Katie Milkie 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Bellevue improved to 2-1.

Doubles key for Spartans

MARION — Upper Sandusky took two of the three singles matches, but couldn’t get a doubles match to go its way in a 3-2 loss to Marion Pleasant.

Pleasant’s Kaylee Ervin beat Saki Fukuta 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.

Upper Sandusky’s Mara Smalley topped Avery Klaiber 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 at No. 2 and Lauren Schoenberger defeated Sophie Johnston 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.

Pleasant’s top doubles duo of Charlotte Beabout and Lyndi Blackburn beat Hannah Frey and Sarah Scott 7-6(7-3), 6-4 and Kaity Bender and Olivia Jordan took down Adrian Malone and Jada Manns 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 at No. 2.

“It was a great match overall,” Rams coach Aaron Frazee said. “We had our chances and just came up short in a couple spots.”

Fliers soar past Little Giants

FREMONT — Clyde made quick work of Fremont Ross Wednesday in a 5-0 sweep.

At singles play, Clyde’s No. 1 Emma Strudthoff beat Alexis Huff 6-0, 6-0, while No. 2 Nathalie Cziesla followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Trinity Smith and No. 3 Gabby Castillo topped Lucy Miller 6-1, 6-3.

Doubles went the same way as the No. 1 duo of Megan Barrett and Alyssa Laurer defeated Vivyanna Esquivel and Morgan Shetzer 6-0, 6-0 and the No. 2 team of Hali Hagemeyer and Averie Fritz beat Shea Smith and Brynn Roppert 6-0, 6-1.

The Fliers improved to 3-2.

Black Knights clip Redmen in 4

VAN BUREN — Fostoria rebounded from a rough first game at Van Buren to tie the match, but the Black Knights pulled away after that for a 25-10, 23-25, 25-7, 25-20 victory.

Fostoria dropped to 0-2.

Jasmine Groves dished out 14 assists, was 66-70 setting and added three kills, two aces and a block for Fostoria. Zoe Rice added 10 kills and 10 digs. Dashani Taylor delivered seven digs and three kills.

Mauryanna Jones registered six kills, 12 digs, three aces. Kamari Godfrey added 10 digs.
