Columbian gets to 3-0 with sweep
FREMONT — Columbian made quick work of Fremont Ross Monday in a 5-0 sweep of the Little Giants.
At No. 1 singles, TC’s Casey Knutson beat Viv Esquivel 6-1, 6-1, while Sammy Kimmet upended Alexis Huff 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and Anna Stephey topped Morgan Shetzer 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3.
Morgan Amory and Allyson Riley took care of Trinity Smith and Ava Smith in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. The second doubles duo of Erin Musil and Linzi Boos beat Lucy Miller and Shea Smith 6-2, 6-2.
The Tornadoes improved to 3-0.
Rams dominate Streaks
FREMONT — Upper Sandusky came away with a 4-1 victory Monday against Fremont St. Joe.
Other than No. 1 singles, the Rams (2-2) took care of business. St. Joe’s Olivia Eshleman defeated Saki Fukuta 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1.
At No. 2, the Rams’ Mara Smalley topped Hannah Paeth 6-0, 6-0 and Lauren Schoenberger dropped Madison Wilson by the same score at No. 3.
The No. 1 doubles duo of Hannah Frey and Sarah Scott defeated Hannah Schellt and Mara Wenning 6-2, 6-1, while the No. 2 team of Jada Manns and Adrian Malone dispatched Maddie Wammes and Audrey Burkin 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).
“A good win for us tonight,” Rams coach Aaron Frazee said. “I was really proud of how our second doubles fought back to win the second set. They were down 6-2 in the tiebreaker and won six straight points to win the set and match.”
Clyde drops to .500
ASHLAND — Clyde met its match Monday on the road at Ashland as it fell 4-1.
At singles, Ashland’s Korinne Harris dropped Emma Strudthoff 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, while Audra McBride added a 6-0, 6-1 win over Nathalie Cziesla at No. 2 and Lydia Sinchok beat Gabby Castillo 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.
Ashland’s No. 1 doubles duo of Laura Slabaugh and Alice Dorrell upended Megan Barrett and Alyssa Laurer 6-4, 7-5.
Clyde’s lone win came at second doubles as Hali Hagemeyer and Averie Fritz topped Chloe Watson and Maddie Moore 6-3, 7-5.
Clyde dropped to 2-2.
Lady Red open
season with sweep
CASTALIA — After a tight opening set, Bellevue cruised past Margaretta 27-25, 25-14, 25-13 to open its season with a win.
Taylor Baxter led the Lady Red (1-0) with 18 kills, while Kailee Felder had six to go with three aces, Beyah Garcia compiled five kills and a pair of blocks and Molly Bullion notched 32 assists, two aces and 13 digs. Kami Hay had two aces and 13 digs and Claire Turner smacked a pair of aces.
“I am proud of how our girls fought back in that first set to get Game 1 and we cut down on our unforced errors to win Games 2 and 3,” Bellevue coach Karen Irons said.
FREMONT — Addi Conti accumulated 15 assists, 12 kills and six digs for Columbian in a 25-20, 25-20, 25-16 non-league win at Fremont Ross Monday.
Rylie Roggow tacked on nine kills, two blocks, seven digs and three aces for TC (3-0), while Amara Solomon chipped in five kills and four digs, Olivia Jacobs had 16 assists, four digs and three kills, Toria Ingalls smacked three blocks and Lexi Smith ended with a kill and a dig.
