Weingart, a freshman, had a first-round bye before beating Kurt Harrison of Fremont Ross 6-2, 6-3 and Ashland’s Andrew Furness 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Saturday’s finals will determine the seedings for the district tournament at Bowling Green State University.

Ryan Crocker fell 7-5, 6-4 to Ashland’s Isaac Haynes.

Upper Sandusky’s Bower,

Hill reach sectional finals

SHELBY — Upper Sandusky’s doubles team of Grant Bower and Answon Hill earned a district berth Thursday after advancing to Saturday’s Division II sectional finals.

The Rams opened with a first-round bye before beating a Willard team 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.

They then dropped Ontario’s Jason Lin and Ib Garbadawala 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the sectional semifinals.

“They are the first kids that I have had advance beyond sectionals. I am very happy for them,” Upper Sandusky coach Aaron Frazee said. “They have been up and down for most of the year, but they really got it rolling today and other than a bit of a sloppy first round second set, they played great.

“It might have been the best that Grant has played all year. They picked a good time to get it headed in the right direction,” he said. “They have more work to do, but we are going to enjoy the journey.”

Saturday’s action will determine seedings for the district tournament at Bowling Green State University.

Upper Sandusky’s other doubles team of Kyle Snowden and Nolan Mewhorter fell 6-0, 6-2 in the first round to a team from Ontario.

All three singles players for the Rams were also eliminated.

Levi Malone beat Lexington’s Ross Durlik 6-2, 6-2 before losing 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to Shelby’s Ryan Stahl.

Landon Cotto-Ramos defeated Ontario’s Jared Sweeney 6-0, 6-0 and Karson Kimmel of Bucyrus 6-0, 6-1 before falling 6-0, 6-0 to second-seeded Noah Brown of Clear Fork.

Justin Blackburn lost 6-1, 6-0 in the first round to No. 3 seed Tommy Secrist of Lexington.

“Its always hard to end your season, and we had some disappointed kids. Levi really had a strong hope of playing in the district tournament, and he has beaten Ryan Stahl earlier this year. But Stahl did a great job of changing his strategy and Levi just really couldn’t figure him out,” Frazee said. “Landon made a heck of a run winning his first two matches quickly. He just ran into a buzzsaw. Noah Brown is a very good tennis player and is difficult for about anyone in our area to beat.”
