Early deficit can’t halt Lady Red

GALION — Bellevue trailed 9-0 early, then it didn’t.

After spotting Norwalk an early lead, the Redmen rallied back big time Saturday to claim a 63-49 Division II district title.

The win vaults Bellevue into Tuesday’s 7 p.m. regional semifinal at Mansfield High against Norton, the fourth regional trip in the last five years for the Redmen (24-1).

Big runs helped them get there.

Bellevue closed the second quarter on a 10-0 run to enter the break up 25-20, then opened the third period on a 17-0 run for a 42-20 advantage en route to a 49-29 lead by the end of the quarter.

Casey Santoro popped in 26 game-high points for Bellevue, with Payton Vogel and Cory Santoro each adding 13. Gabby Turner (6) and Riley Morh (5) combined for the team’s other 11 points.

Olivia Ward netted 17 points for the Truckers (20-5) and Kaelyn Harkness added 14.

Bucks roll into regional

WILLARD — Jenna Karl led a trio of double-digit scorers Saturday as Buckeye Central rolled past Lucas 66-43 for a Division IV district title at Willard High.

Karl tossed in 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to spark the Bucks (24-1), who face Willoughby Cornerstone Christian at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at Massillon Perry.

Taylor Ratliff chipped in 16 points and eight boards, and Courtney Pifher netted 15 points.

The Cubs (17-9) got 17 points and six rebounds from Jessie Grover and nine points from Ashley Robertson.
