Calvert’s Jones, Mohawk’s Brown get 1st team All-Ohio
There were 11 local players honored on the All-Ohio list when the Division VI and VII lists were released Sunday night. The first-team players were in Division VII as Calvert junior Austin Jones was first-team offense and Mohawk senior Parker Brown earned first-team defense.
Jones ran for 1,642 yards and 24 touchdowns during the regular season this year leading the Senecas to the playoffs once again. Brown led Mohawk’s defense with 98 tackles and picked off four picks. He led a talented Mohawk defense and a Warriors team that tasted the playoffs.
Calvert also had a honorable mention selection in Nic Somodi, who picked off five passes and recorded 36 tackles for the Senecas. Nick Theis was selected as second-team defense for the Warriors. He had 78 tackles, 7 ½ sacks and 22 tackles for a loss. Mohawk’s Zach Hayman was honorable mention with 36 catches for 501 yards and 11 scores.
Elsewhere in Division VII, Hopewell-Loudon’s Alec Bower was a third-team defense selection. He had 58 tackles and 30 tackles for a loss.
In Division VI, Seneca East led all area schools with four selections. The Tigers’ Brock Martin and Kainon Ruffin were third-team selections, while Blaine Swartzmiller and Dylan Cornwell were honorable mention.
For third-team offense, Martin rushed for 1,240 yards and 10 TDs, while Ruffing was third-team defense with 62 tackles and five picks.
Swartzmiller tallied 51 tackles and 25 for a loss, while Cornwell had 62 stops and 19 ½ for a loss.
Carey had one selection as Grant Frederick was honorable mention with 76 tackles and 24 for a loss.
