TC’s McCarthy, Clyde’s Hilliker each advance
Clyde’s Ian Hilliker and Columbian’s Trevor McCarthy shot twin 85s Tuesday at Mohawk Country Club in a Division I sectional tournament.
Both 85s were good enough to advance to districts as the top five teams and top five individuals not on those teams qualified.
Hilliker and McCarthy will attempt a trip to state next Thursday in the district round at Red Hawk in Findlay.
As far as the two teams, Columbian was seventh (364) and Clyde was ninth (380).
Backing McCarthy for TC was Andrew Branson (88), Braden Brown (91), Greg Gase (100) and Brenton Brown (100).
For Clyde, Grant Reese shot a 97, while David Hohnestein and Ben Hohenstein both fired a 99 and Mikey Haynes carded a 100.
Lady Red sweep Rams
UPPER SANDUSKY — Bellevue took care of Upper Sandusky Tuesday, sweeping the Rams 5-0.
The Lady Red’s Chloe Brubaker got past Upper Sandusky’s Sydney Schryer, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
“I thought Sydney Schryer played one of her best matches tonight, even though the score doesn’t reflect that,” Rams coach Aaron Frazee said. “She has played so tough for us at first singles all year and she hasn’t been on the winning end very often, but this says an awful lot about her; that she continues to compete until the very end, and she should be very proud of her effort not only tonight, but all season.”
At No. 2 singles, Bellevue’s Rayven Whyde pushed past Mady West, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), while at third singles, the Rams’ Summer Strunk downed Danielle Conigy 6-2, 6-2.
At first doubles, the Lady Red’s Mackenna Peacock and Skyler Strunk defeated Jodi Smalley and Mara Smalley, 6-2, 7-5. At second doubles, Bellevue’s Mady Brugnone and Wyanna Schalk beat Upper Sandusky’s Samantha Fagan and Ella Little, 6-1, 6-0.
The Rams slipped to 7-9. Bellevue improved to 15-5.
