Fliers open SBC play with 4-1 victory over Pirates

CLYDE — Clyde swept the singles matches Tuesday to open Sandusky Bay Conference play with a 4-1 win against Sandusky Perkins.

Heidi Marshall beat Serena Bruno 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 singles for Clyde (2-1, 1-0 SBC), Jil Eisenblaetter rolled past Cassie Cebull 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, and Siera Hisey dropped Ryleigh Keller 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3

Fliers Alayna Barrera and Akane Aritsuka beat Ashley Kaufman and Dehvin Shumate 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Perkins took the No. 1 doubles match, with Maria Schoder and Diana Schoder beating Lakotah Cagle and Madi Bannister 6-3, 6-2.

Senecas fall at home

Edison beat Calvert 4-1 Tuesday.

Calvert’s lone win came at No. 1 doubles, where Senecas Elena Kapelka and Bria Coleman dropped Madisyn Fredrick and Jackelyn Rospert 6-4, 6-3.

Chargers Kaylee Ries and Emily Morton took the No. 2 doubles match 6-3, 6-4 from Marie Welter and Emma Prince.

Edison swept the singles matches.

Mariah Medina beat Marie Brodman 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1, Jayla Medina defeated Devyn Warnement 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2, and Emily Brogus beat Maria Goshe 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2.

Truckers blank Columbian

Norwalk had little trouble with Columbian Tuesday, shutting out the Tornadoes 5-0.

The Truckers’ Megan Berry scored a 6-0, 6-2 win over TC’s Brooke Smith, while Norwalk’s Jordan Gran scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Sophie Crist.

At No. 3 singles, Gabby Horowitz notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Columbian’s Katie Smith.

In doubles play, the Truckers’ Sela Berry and Mara Berry beat Marina Pennycuff and Casey Knutson, 6-3, 6-1, while at second doubles, Norwalk’s Emma Trost and Lauren Metcalf topped Alexis Smith and Erin Musil, 6-1, 6-3.

Bellevue nips Blue Streaks

BELLEVUE –Bellevue scored wins in each of Tuesday’s doubles matches, and edged visiting Sandusky 3-2.

At second doubles, Summer Strunk and Wyanna Schalk defeated Sandusky’s LeAnn Johnson and Maddie Smith, 6-4, 7-5, while at first doubles, the Lady Red’s Mackenna Peacock and Skylar Strunk got past Sammy Thomas and Honesty Cogan, 6-1, 6-3.

The Lady Red’s other victory came at third singles, where Mady Brugnone notched a 6-2, 7-6 win over Aubrey Smith.

The Blue Streaks scored a win at first singles, where Alana Armstrong picked up a 6-4, 7-5 win over Chloe Brubaker, while at second singles, Sandusky’s Jenna Hofer won a rain-shortened 4-6, 6-4, 4-2 match over the Lady Red’s Rayven Whyde.
