St. Wendelin Parish is to celebrate the jubilees of Sister Elizabeth "Liz" Garcia, Sister Mary Jo Toll and Sister JoAnn Torti at the 11 a.m. Mass July 27, with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
Garcia is celebrating her 50th jubilee. She is the pastoral associate for Hispanic ministry at St. Wendelin Parish. She took the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience in 1964 to the Sisters of Notre Dame. Since then, she has taught and served at parishes and schools across the nation, including St. Joseph Central Catholic in Fremont, Immaculate Conception in Marygrove and St. Paul in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Garcia also served as a missionary to Jinotega, Nicaragua. Now, she organizes aid, Bible study, English classes, weekly Spanish Masses and other needs of the Hispanic community in Fostoria.
She plans to share her jubilee celebration with other Sisters of Notre Dame who have spent time at St. Wendelin Parish & School.
Toll is celebrating her 50th jubilee. She was a teacher at what is now St. Wendelin Catholic School years ago. She serves as the Sisters of Notre Dame representative at the United Nations NGO in New York.
Torti is celebrating her 60th jubilee this year. She has served at multiple locations, but was at St. Wendelin Parish & School previously as principal of what is now St. Wendelin Catholic School. She now serves in En Camino Outreach Ministries.
The celebration is to consist of a Mass with a reception in the Parish Hall following, where light refreshments and Mexican food are to be served.
In August, St. Wendelin Parish & School plans to celebrate the 50th jubilee of Father Nicholas Weibl.
