The Rev. Donna Van Trees recently retired from ministry at Faith United Methodist Church, Tiffin.
Van Trees pursued her dreams of becoming a pastor during a time when many churches did not share the vision of women in ministry. Through prayer and encouragement of others, she followed God's calling to ordination.
Since becoming a minister, she has served Perrysville, Mansfield Main, Kilbourne, Saybrook, Tiffin Ebenezer United Methodist and Tiffin Faith United Methodist.
Van Trees has been involved in Tiffin and the surrounding communities. She serves on the Community Task Force (previously the Mayor's Task Force), the International Culture Center Board, Martin Luther King Jr. Planning committee, is a member of Kiwanis, serving as faith and values chair for the last two years, president of the Seneca County Area Ministerial Association, Coordinator of Sermonettes in The Advertiser-Tribune and on WTTF, chairman of the board of directors for the Franciscan Spirituality Center, leads the Bible study once a month at Kiwanis Manor, District Committee of Ministry, East Ohio Administrative Review Committee, Flat Rock Care Center board of directors and chair of the Flat Rock Outreach Board.
Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz proclaimed June 29 as "Rev. Donna Van Trees Day" in Tiffin to honor her and thank her for her service to all fellow human beings, for her caring compassion and dedication to all those in need.
During her time in Tiffin, she met and married Karl Haskins, and they now reside at Cinnamon Lake, West Salem. Their retirement plans include enjoying their home at the lake, bird watching, kayaking, canoeing and spending time with their family.
