Nationally known motivational speaker Eric Thomas is speaking at 8 p.m. today at Camden Falls, hosted by Nick Fabrizio.
"I wanted to bring his positive message to Tiffin," Fabrizio said. "He really wants to change the world. His goal is to change people's philosophy, to heal kids.
"He talks a lot about taking responsibility for yourself and working and hard. He wants them to know anything is possible if they're willing to do the work."
Thomas is a speaker, educator, author, activist and minister who delivers high-energy, inspiring messages that encourage people to live up to their potential by breaking the cycles of crime, hopelessness and despair.
"He had kind of a rough childhood raised by a single mother," Fabrizio said.
A high school dropout, Thomas obtained his GED and went to college.
He received a master's degree in 2005 and is working on a doctorate in education administration at Michigan State University.
While consulting at Michigan State, he developed The Advantage Program, an undergraduate retention program targeting academically high-risk students of color.
Thomas encourages higher education, and coupled with his knowledge of life's pains, he inspires people to break bad habits and reach for new levels of personal achievement.
In addition to his speech, Thomas will have his books and merchandise available for sale. Fabrizio said people are welcome to arrive early.
Tickets are $15 for students and $30 for others.
