Free tax preparation halted for 2014
The A-T ran an article Jan. 28 about the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and its long-time director, Margaretta Covert. After its publication, Covert suffered a serious health emergency that has resulted in cancellation of the program for 2014.
One of the volunteers, Tom Joseph, said the program cannot be conducted without a director to handle the electronic filings.
VITA may be offered for senior citizens at Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, but on a limited basis. An announcement is to be made prior to the Wednesdays when the service is available.
Joseph did make some calls to locate other free tax preparation offerings in the area and found information on three AARP Tax-Aide programs as follows:
Kaubish Memorial Public Library, Fostoria, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursdays only; (419) 937-2962.
Clyde, (419) 547-8052.
Fremont, (419) 334-8181.
