Richard Edward "Dick" Runion, 88, of Tiffin, died at 1:25 a.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, on his dream vacation to Alaska.
Richard was born Nov. 26, 1924, to Henry Oscar and Catherine (Mitchell) Runion. He married Betty Lou (Barth) Sept. 25, 1944, in Moorehead, N.C., and she preceded him death. He later married Clara B. (Wolfe) Sept. 17, 1983, in Tiffin, and she also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter, Susan Kay (Stephen) Smith of Tiffin; three stepchildren, Tom (Laura) Wolfe of Mansfield, Karen (RJ) Meneth of Cleveland and Cherie (Kevin) Ruff of Michigan; two grandchildren, Christy (Randy) Wiser and Jeff (Amanda) Smith; four great-grandchildren, Abigail (Kory) Young, Olivia Wiser and Mitchell and Jacob Smith; a brother, Gene Runion of Charlottesville, Va.; and numerous stepgrandchildren.
Richard worked as a TV repairman for 36 years and also built antique car radiators for more than 20 years. He was a member of Tiffin Elks, Moose Lodge, AMVETS, Pioneer Auto Club, Michigan Gas and Brass, AACA, VMCCA and the Horseless Carriage Club of America. Richard was a 1943 graduate of Tiffin Columbian. He also was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving during World War II.
Richard also was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Runion.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory, 135 N. Washington St., Tiffin, with the Rev. Alonzo Wise and the Rev. Douglas DeVos officiating. Military services will follow at Fairmont Cemetery, Tiffin.
Visitation for family and friends will be 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
