Joyce Ann Spitler

Joyce Ann Spitler, 60, of Niles, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at her home.

She was born June 14, 1952, to Opal Elizabeth Hieber Spitler and Lester Joel Spitler of rural Tiffin.

She graduated from Mohawk High School in 1970 and from Bluffton College in 1974. She taught home economics/family and consumer science and general science at Niles McKinley High School from 1974 to 2009. She was also the Home Economics Club adviser for most of her career and a Red Cross adviser for numerous years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Ridge, Ohio, where she served as an elder and deacon. She also volunteered at Niles Community Services and was a member of the board for the past three years.

She is survived by her partner, Robert Earl Seiple of Niles; two children, Jeffrey Michael Thompson of Addison, Texas, and Julie Marie Thompson of Cleburne, Texas; a grandson, Anthony Joel Thompson of Cleburne, Texas; and two siblings, Barbara Jean (David) Sander of Genoa, Ohio, and David Joel (Barbara) Spitler of Tiffin.

Joyce donated her body for cancer research through Case Western Reserve University. A celebration of life will take place July 6, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church, Mineral Ridge, Ohio with Pastor Jaime Milton officiating.
