The men of Alpha Phi Tau at Heidelberg University are to host their annual walk for Seneca Habitat for Humanity starting at noon April 20 and ending at noon April 21 at Heidelberg University Commons.
The goal is to generate funds for home construction to reduce homelessness in the community.
Alpha Phi Tau will have several members walking through the campus on a one-mile course for the duration of the walk. The remaining members will be offering entertainment at the Commons, including music, movies and a 10-day play. Students, staff and community members are invited to participate in stagecraft, production and impromptu acting.
As the first walker departs, students will start writing a play to be produced.
Other events include a cornhole tournament 3-4 p.m., a cookout 4:30-6 p.m., jazz combo music 6-7 p.m., a message from Seneca Habitat 7-8 p.m. and more jazz music 8-9 p.m. Sunday morning, the play is to be performed at 9:30 a.m.
The 24-hour walk began in 1994 at the suggestion of a member of Alpha Phi Tau. The time frame was chosen to symbolize a day in the life of a homeless person. Members and participants are exposed to the elements, with no place of shelter.
Donations can be made in advance by making a check payable to Alpha Phi Tau, in care of the business office, 310 E. Market St., Tiffin, OH 44883.
