After 51 years, Banks Hair Fashions assumed a new name Monday and transferred ownership to Briana Lee, who has been with the company for eight years.
The new name is Bri & Co. LLC, but the same stylists are working there, including owner Julie Webb.
"The hair business is something that my family and extended family have been in for many years," Lee said. "Jane Banks, the previous owner of Banks Hair Fashions, is not only the mother of current owner Julie Webb, but also my great aunt."
In 1948, Lee's grandmother, Beverly Kraft, opened a salon called "Lady Fair" on West Perry Street. Her sister, Jane Banks, joined her in 1949 and they worked together until Jane and her husband, George Banks, branched off and opened Banks Hair Fashions in 1961.
"In April 2007, (they) offered me the opportunity to become the owner of the salon in April 2013," Lee said. "At the time it seemed so far away but the time has finally come. I am so blessed and excited to start my journey of salon ownership."
Lee said it has been an honor working with them and learning from them.
"I am ready to start the next chapter of my life and also the next chapter in the history of the salon," she said.
The salon is to be closed April 15-22 for remodeling, and an open house is planned in the future.
