W. Neil "Shelly" Shellhammer, 90, longtime resident of Attica and Republic, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Ruffing Family Care Center, Bloomville, where he had been a resident for the past two years.
He was born May 12, 1922, in Green Springs, to William Neil and Alta Mae (Husted) Shellhammer Sr. He married Helen E. Shultz Oct. 20, 1944, in Republic, and she survives in Bloomville.
Other survivors include two sons, Charles (Erma) Shellhammer of New Riegel and Jeffery (Ann) Shellhammer of Tiffin; two daughters, Sandra (Paul) Bridgford of Attica and Virginia (Herman) Holmer of Republic; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, his twin, Wilma Mae, and Pauline McConnell and a brother, Marion Shellhammer.
Mr. Shellhammer was a truck driver for Pennzoil, Fremont, for many years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Republic, and attended the Attica Methodist Church. He was an avid horseman, a member of Ohio Mule Association, the Ohio Miniature Horse Association, American Paint Horses Association, Seneca County Saddle Club and Lazy Aces Saddle Club, and the Attica Lawnmower Club.
His funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Michael Padula and the Rev. David Clarke officiating. Burial will follow at St. Jacob's Cemetery, CR 38 Republic.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at the funeral home.
