Toy Hunter Story

December 17, 2013 - Rob Weaver
MaryAnn Kromer's story about a segment of the Travel Channel show “Toy Hunter” being recorded in Tiffin resulted from more perseverance than one might expect.

First, I received a note from another A-T employee Thursday morning stating the Toy Hunter crew would be in town that morning. I sent an email to staff writer Karen Kin asking her to pursue the story.

Karen placed a call to the residents of the home and found herself talking to a crew member, who told her all media requests for interviews had to be scheduled through the Travel Channel. So, she fired off an email with just such a request. Karen received a reply from David Stephen, supervising producer for Toy Hunter, stating he had passed the request along to Rick Gomes, director of communications for Travel Channel.

By that time it was mid-afternoon, and obligations kept Karen from pursuing the story further. I sent an email to Mr. Gomes telling him MaryAnn would take over, and he contacted the production staff for available times. Actually, there was more email and phone tag going on, but that's the condensed version.

A short time later came this reply:

“We are all set. I have confirmed the Jordan Hembrough/"Toy Hunter" interview with MaryAnn Kromer for tonight at 6:30pm.”

He cautioned that there would be a limited time for an interview, as the crew kept a tight schedule. That suited MaryAnn, because her schedule was tight, too; she had another appointment at 7:30 p.m.

Whew! It all worked out. The segment filmed in Tiffin is to be broadcast this spring.
