Op-eds on Buying Greenland

President Trump opined that our country would be smart to buy (or even rent) Greenland, and both Pat Buchanan and Marc Thiessen offer historical support for the idea. (In Monday, Aug. 26 Advertiser-Tribune). Of course it does no harm to consider what Greenland’s prime ministers, past and present, think about it. One remarked that Greenland is open for business but not for sale.

I would suggest that since Greenland is part of Denmark, the province would likely have the same exemplary policy about conserving its natural resources as Denmark. That country represents the antithesis to the reckless extraction of America’s mineral wealth and the Trump administration’s easy tolerance of consequent pollution. Let the seller or lessor beware.
