Letter: Intern enjoys time at United Way
Who would have thought that one class could lead to much more? My junior year of college at Heidelberg University I took a public relations class for my major. My professor brought in a local nonprofit business to work with. That client was Tiffin-Seneca United Way. We worked closely with Executive Director Patricia J. DeMonte in order to learn about the organization and their goals.
After the completion of my class I decided I wanted to work with the organization more. I applied for an internship and joined the team. I met the Office Manager, Reannon, and the Program Coordinator of First Call for Help, Jason. Over the course of the summer, I got to learn about the organization and what they stand for, as well as the needs of the Tiffin-Seneca community.
The Tiffin-Seneca United Way was founded in 1943 and has been operating for over 75 years in order to help the community. Their mission statement is “To Improve the lives of the residents in Seneca County and encourage community members to care for one another”. Tiffin-Seneca United Way is more than just a non-profit organization, they are life changers. All of the donation money collected goes directly toward helping those in need in the local Tiffin-Seneca area. This allows donors and volunteers to see the impact they make on the community.
The Tiffin-Seneca United Way works toward improving the lives of members of the community in more ways than one. First Call for Help is a program provided by the Tiffin-Seneca United Way to assist those in need, focusing on the areas of health, education, financial stability, and safety net services. Whether it be providing help with bills, taking preventative measures, or giving advice, First Call for Help provides direct services to the Tiffin-Seneca Community.
Overall, I enjoyed my time at the Tiffin-Seneca United Way. It was interesting to see how a non-profit is ran and all the important things that go on behind the scenes. The most significant thing I learned was how much good Tiffin-Seneca United Way has done and continues to do for the community.
